These repeating digits caused some hype last Friday boosting lottery sales and making it impossible for those who wanted to buy this combination of numbers to buy. Was it actually their good luck?
It seems that repeating digits tend to be a popular combination for Kentucky Lottery Pick 3 and Pick 4 players, but 11/11/11/ is especially unique. US lottery
Players are expected to quickly snap up Pick 3 tickets with the 1-1-1 combination and Pick 4 tickets with the 1-1-1-1 combination.
As of 9:30 a.m. Friday morning, all of all 1-1-1-1 Pick 4 tickets for the day’s midday and evening drawing were sold out. All of the Pick 3 midday tickets have been sold, but less than 800 of the 1-1-1 tickets were still available for the evening draw.
In Detroit, Friday afternoon proved to be disappointing for those who hoped to buy the lucky string of numbers inspired by the date as well. Lottery results
“The Lottery has a liability cap of $40 million on the Daily 4,” the commission said in an email statement. “Once the sales of a particular number reach the level that would require a $40 million payout if that number was drawn, sales for that number automatically stop. This has happened with 1111 today.”
There was no cap on Daily 3 tickets, but anyone who went the 111 route would’ve lost anyway, as the numbers came up 016.
Lisa Gilmore, 58, is a daily lotto player who said Friday’s news coverage inspired her picks.
“I watch the news all day,” the Detroit resident said. “And 11/11/11 — that’s all you’re hearing all morning.”
She arrived at Indian Village Market around 10:15 Friday morning, but the cashier told her the machine was no longer accepting 1111 purchases. According to the cashier, the machine had simply stopped accepting the combination of 1111 and there were already around 10 people before her who could not buy this number.
The Michigan Lottery Commission earlier Friday reached its limit on Daily 4 tickets using the numbers 1111, but the people who couldn’t buy the tickets were the lucky ones. The Daily 4 numbers drawn at 7:29 p.m. came up 7858.
The whole world had its take on the symbolism of this significant date that reoccurs once every 100 years, and for it to fall on a Friday it actually takes 400 years. Many lottery lovers took these numbers in the hope of hitting the jackpot; however the jackpots did not favor this sequence of numbers at all. Maybe it takes more than the date to figure out winning numbers. In the end it is all about probability and this time it wasn’t the combination of 1’s that won but the lotteries throughout different states.
