Someone finally came forward to claim the $32 million Mega Millions jackpot won at the August 19 drawing. The winner was revealed to the public in a press conference held yesterday, August 23, 2011. He used to have a job as a record keeper but had been laid off and has been unemployed ever since. His name is Candido Oliveira and he purchased only one ticket for the August 19 drawing. “I’m glad somebody in the neighborhood finally won it,” said Gary Staples, one of Oliveira’s neighbors. “It’s always elsewhere.”

“He’s a nice guy, very hardworking. I’m happy for him. I wish him the best of luck,” a friend of the winner added. State lottery

The owner of the Dorchester store who sold the lucky lottery ticket will also receive $50,000 and has already made plans for it.

“I’m going to pay some bills, I’m going to take care of my employees also and a big portion is going to go back to the community,” Hani El-Shurafa, the store owner, said.

Meanwhile, Candido Oliveira said he managed to keep his cool since he found out about his astonishing luck.

“I feel good. The first thing is to take care of my family, my friends…do good things,” Candido Oliveira stated.

His girlfriend, Edite Monteiro, said she will quit her job at her registry and she couldn’t believe it when Oliveira broke the news. It appears our man is quite a joker so his girlfriend was in complete disbelief when he told her the news. However, that changed when she got home and saw the lottery ticket.

“He actually called me at work and told me the news and I couldn’t believe him because he always likes to joke around. I got home and he showed me the ticket,” Edite OIiveira stated.

There are many out there who believe Oliveira is one of the luckiest man in the world because he managed to win with a single Quick Pick ticket while others buy hundreds of lottery tickets and never win anything.
