BUGLER’S LOTTERY PAPERS AUCTIONED ONLINE
July 12, 2011

We read and write a lot of weird stories about lotteries here. But today we came across one of the weirdest we’ve ever had. It appears some documents that carry the signature of one James “Whitey” Bugler, including his Massachusetts State Lottery jackpot winning ticket went up on eBay this Monday. The sale brought the mobster a $14.3 million lottery jackpot. It appears that the documents in question were auctioned by Jean Linskey, the ex wife of Michael Linskey, one of Bugler’s partners and he also helped the mobster get his prize. Lotteries

“They received various documents to sign, and a pile of receipts,” the online auction’s description reads.

Michael Linskey had a very important part to play in the whole lottery business. He was the one who actually bought the ticket from the South Boston Liquor Mart, a shop owned by Kevin Weeks and James Bugler.

The criminals agreed to share any winnings with Michael’s brother, Pat Linskey. Somehow, the group of criminals managed to hit the jackpot in 1991 and eventually walked out with $14.3 million. The documents contain a group picture with all those involved in the lottery business and there are also a couple of documents with James Bugler. One might think that winning so much money would deter a person from continuing in a life of crime, but Bugler’s mob connections ran deep and he finally had all of his assets seized by the federal government in 1995. Unfortunately for him, that included his part of the lottery jackpot. Mega lottery

What is even weirder is that there are quite a few people out there who will pay good money for the mobster’s signature. The lottery ticket with which Bugler won the money sparked unending controversy over how the group managed to win the lottery by using some illegal method or another. The most common version is that the group threatened the real winner of the ticket into giving it to them. And even though it was a large sum of money, we all know no amount of money is more important than a person’s life.

Speculations continue to this day, but that’s all we’ll mention today. Return to us soon if you want to hear all about lotteries, lottery tickets and so much more. Powerball lottery
