EUROPEAN LOTTERIES GAINING GROUND
July 11, 2011

There are many who think that the lotteries in the United States are some of the best and most popular in the world. Almost every state lottery makes billions every year, and millions upon millions of people purchase lottery tickets every day. However, it seems that several European lotteries are also gaining a lot of popularity and, well, money. US lottery

One particular game, the Euro Millions lottery, is standing out of the pack as one of the most popular lottery games in the world (along with the United States Powerball Lottery). A major difference, and one that makes it extremely attractive, between Euro Millions and the lotteries in the United States is that there is no annuity option. The announced jackpot can only be cashed in as a lump sum and it is paid out entirely (after being taxed, of course).

The Euro Millions drawing for last Friday went without a winner, and that means the largest prize in European lottery history is up for grabs next time. The astounding jackpot has reached $264.9 million. We know the United States have had far bigger jackpots, but in Europe the lotteries are not really as important as they are here. Lottery results

If a player wants to win the grand prize, he just needs to get the first 5 numbers right (they can choose numbers between 1 and 50) and guess 2 additional Lucky Star balls (players can choose numbers between 1 and 11). Currently, the Euro Millions lottery is played in the following countries: Ireland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

However, even if a person is not a citizen of those particular countries, they can still play the lottery. Many online places have what they call a “butler service”. Basically, they purchase tickets for the lotteries played in countries you can’t easily reach. National lottery

“This Euro Millions roll series alone has already contributed over £60 million to the massive £26 billion raised for the good causes since launch of The National Lottery nearly 17 years ago,” A spokesperson for the National Lottery of the United Kingdom stated.

The current largest European jackpot ever won was claimed by an Italian and the prize was almost 148 million Euros.
