FLORIDA LOTTERY WILL GET REVAMPED
August 1, 2011

The Florida State Lottery is facing difficult times. Even though things looked great about 25 years ago when it was founded, the lottery is now finding it hard to hold the line. Sales aren’t going so well, its marketing strategies are not among the best and other source of gambling are stealing more and more customers. However, it appears that the lottery’s heads are not indifferent to the situation. Governor Rick Scott chose a branding expert with some good ideas to lead the Lottery toward a better tomorrow. “We’re going to look at everything we do and see how we can give it a brand refresh,” Cynthia O’Conell, former UF trustee and widow of Stephen C. O’Conell, former President of the University of Florida, stated. Lottery results

The lottery will revamp itself and not even its logo will escape untouched. The lottery will soon launch several new projects which may attract a lot of interest from potential lottery players. Even though the lottery managed to sell over $4 billion worth of tickets in its last fiscal year, sale levels are still 4 percent lower than they were in 2007-08. If the plan works, the lottery will be able to raise more money for various education projects. National lottery

“Our player base is … they’re not getting any younger,” Cynthia O’Conell stated. “We want to make sure that we have a strong and vibrant player base.”

Since it was founded, the Florida State Lottery gave more than $22 billion for public education. Last year alone it produced more than $1 billion for education, which is really not ad, but it is still way less than it was 4 years ago.

O’Connell seems to be attuned to today’s lottery players and wants to redesign the lottery’s official website. However, even though it has about 3.3 million visitors every month, the site looks extremely old and it should be redesigned later this month.

“It’s fair to say that we’re behind the times on social media, but that will be changed,” David Bishop, deputy secretary for brand management (a new Lottery role), stated. “We’ll be on Twitter, we’ll be on Facebook, we’ll be on emerging social platforms that allow us to not only reach our customers but our future customers.”
