Local police officers at Union City are recommending locals to implement caution after a 60-year-old man recently involved in a lottery scam. According to Sgt. Travis Souza, the victim was at the Fremont DMV parking lot and was approached by two men claiming to have a winning lottery ticket worth $9 million. US lottery.

The guys leading the rip-off were a white man in his 50s and a black man in his 30s claiming to be Russian and French immigrants. They claimed to have won some lotto money but they were in the country illegally, consequently, they could not collect the prize since they did not have Social Security numbers and feared they would be deported.

To make the lottery ticket seem real, the scammers had the victim call a number in print on the back of the slip. A woman at the fake call center confirmed the “winning” numbers, according to Sgt. Souza. “That further sinks the hook in the victim,” Souza said.

The prey drove to a local bank in Union City where he supplied “the money” over to the suspects. The scammers then escaped from the area after getting the money.
