POWERBALL JACKPOT STIRRS PEOPLE IN MINNESOTA
August 12, 2011

As you may already know, the $228.9 million Powerball jackpot was won by a ticket sold in Minnesota. The winner has yet to come forth and claim his prize, but many lottery players from that area were startled to find out the lucky lottery ticket was sold there. Upon learning that the largest jackpot ever won in Minnesota was won by someone in Dakota County, John Nee, aged 63, believed it could be him. However, upon checking his ticket, he realized it wasn’t meant to be, at least not this time.

“Like every week. It’s not me. But that’s all right. It will come,” John Nee, from Apple Valley, stated. US lottery

The lucky number combination was 11, 18, 36, 41, 46 and the Powerball 38. State lottery officials said the odds of winning it were 1 in 195.2 million. Lottery results

“It wasn’t me,” Jerry Fleetwood stated as he was refueling his car. However, he was happy a Minnesotan won the prize. At the moment, everyone waits for the winner to finally come forth and claim the prize at the lottery headquarters. National lottery

“Some winners take a couple days. Some winners may not find out right away,” Emily Welker, a spokesperson for the Minnesota State Lottery, stated. Various stores, including the Apple Valley Kwik Trip near County Road 11, are letting people know the numbers by pinning sheets of papers with that info and the fact that someone in the area bought the ticket.

“We don’t normally have it advertised, but we thought since it came from Minnesota, it was kind of a big deal,” Dustin Wilkening, assistant store manager at the KwiK Trip store, stated. On the day before the draw, lottery tickets for Powerball were practically flying out of stores, with a lot of people buying 20 or 30 each. “I would say about every single one of them bought lotto tickets.”

This the largest Powerball prize since June 2010 when a $261 million jackpot was won in Ohio. The winner of this particular jackpot can choose the lump sum option, which would be worth around $123.6 million ($83.7 million after taxes) or choose a 30 year annuity. Also, the winner has 1 year at his disposal to claim his prize but does not have the option of keeping his or her identity a secret.
