On the day before the draw, lottery tickets for Powerball were practically flying out of stores, with a lot of people buying 20 or 30 each. “I would say about every single one of them bought lotto tickets.”

This the largest Powerball prize since June 2010 when a $261 million jackpot was won in Ohio. The winner of this particular jackpot can choose the lump sum option, which would be worth around $123.6 million ($83.7 million after taxes) or choose a 30 year annuity. Also, the winner has 1 year at his disposal to claim his prize but does not have the option of keeping his or her identity a secret.
