THE BIGGEST LOTTERIES IN THE WORLD
August 18, 2011

As you may already know, lotteries are gambling institutions that offer various instant or drawing games that yield tremendous cash prizes. In the simplest of terms, a person buys lottery tickets and if he is fortunate enough, his life changes completely. There are hundreds of lotteries in the world, some bigger, some smaller. Almost all the states in the US have a state lottery, each country in Europe also has at least one and so do most countries in Asia and Africa. If you are interested, here are the biggest lotteries in the world. US lottery

The National Lottery of the United Kingdom is one of the biggest in the world. Its prizes often reach incredible values and they are all tax free and paid in lump sum, not in annuities like most prizes are paid in the United States. The Lottery’s spearhead game is named Lotto. Drawings are held once a week and one would just have to pick 6 correct numbers out of 49 to hit the jackpot. Lottery results

The French Lottery is also one of the biggest in the world, with millions of people playing it every week. Its most popular game is Keno. In Keno, players have to choose 10 numbers out of 70. 20 balls are being drawn every time, but players must only get half of them right to claim the big prize. National lottery

Multi-jurisdiction lotteries are without a doubt the largest in the world. In Europe, Euro Millions takes the cake. It is currently being played all across Europe and it has the largest prizes on the Old Continent. Players must choose 5 numbers out of 50 and 2 lucky stars out of 9. Drawings are being held weekly, usually on Fridays. Euro Millions is responsible for the biggest jackpot ever won in Europe.

In the United States, there is no doubt that there is nothing bigger than Powerball. Powerball is available in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. Lottery tickets for Powerball are sold through state lotteries, and its jackpot currently starts at $20 million and tickets cost $1. You can choose to pay $1 extra if you want the Power Play option, which can multiply your non jackpot prize by a maximum of 5. However, Powerball will soon change. Starting next year, the starting jackpot and the ticket price will double.
